Team Fortess Classic Forever Video

Published by Kevin under Team Fortress Classic

Team Fortress Classic – also known as TFC – is maybe one of the longest played games in online gaming history. TFC was released in April of 1999, which was over over 10 years ago, and the game still has a loyal fan base.  Even though the player base has shrunk over the past decade, TFC still has a loyal following.

Besides TFC, some of the games that have reached the 10 year mark are – Quake, Quakeworld, Duke Nukem, Counter-Strike, Half-Life 1 and Doom.  But very few people consider Team Fortress Classic to be in the same class as any of those games.  Those types of people usually have never played TFC.  If they had played it, they would understand “why” TFC has a fan base that spans a whole decade.

Thanks goes to jjb273 for posting this video on youtube.

People that have never played Team Fortress Classic, they may not understand what the video is about. But for those of us that have played it, the video is moving and brings forth certain emotions. The time of TFC is passing away. With the release of Fortress Forever and Team Fortress 2, players have moved on.

But for some people, TFC is like an old friend that we have fond memories with.  Its like a high school or college buddy that we think of from time to time.  There is no way to really understand, unless you have been there.

Long live Team Fortress Classic.

Left 4 Dead part 2 gameplay video

Published by Kevin under Left 4 Dead

Some gameplay action from Left 4 Dead 2. Thanks goes to 1UpMachine for posting this video on youtube. To comment on the video, visit the left 4 dead part 2 gameplay video thread in the left 4 dead forums.

Notice how the game action is outside in daylight, something that part 1 did not have. For the most part, there was like a heavy, dark fog all through left 4 dead part 1. But in part 2, the developers have taken things in a different direction. Now we have bright outdoor scenes where the players can see for a long distance.

Check out the Left 4 Dead 2 Forum.

Valve software has released another update to Team Fortress 2. This time the updates include:

Team Fortress 2

* Added a “Discard” button to the item pickup panel.
* Added a backstab custom death animation to the Heavy.
* Changed default for tf_arena_use_queue to 1. This was the original behavior prior to the last update.
* Changed the Dead Ringer so it can be activated while carrying the flag.
* Increased the Force-A-Nature’s damage by 10%.
* Fixed not being able to reflect arrows with the Flamethrower.
* Fixed The Huntsman drawing a muzzle flash under lagged conditions.
* Fixed the background color of the Spy disguise panel not always matching his disguise team.
* Fixed idle players being kicked when the server has tf_arena_use_queue set to 0.

Those are only a few of the changes.  To view all of the updates, visit the steam news page. To discuss the updates, visit this thread in the Team Fortress 2 Forum.

Left 4 dead 2 teaser video

Published by Kevin under Left 4 Dead

Straight from the youtube channel of Valve Software comes the Left 4 Dead 2 teaser.

From the video it looks like the developers at Valve are moving away from the doom and gloom look of Left 4 Dead 1.  The game play is outside, the sun is shining, it looks like any other day.

The characters look like they were almost pulled straight out of Team Fortress 2, and appear to have a cartoon look to them.  But not as corny as what the TF2 characters look like.

In Half-Life 1 most of the action was inside the Black Mesa compound.  Gordon Freeman went outside a little bit, but the majority of the game play was inside.  In Half-Life 2, its just the opposite.  The majority of the game play is outside.

Maybe the Valve developers are taking the L4D series in the same direction that they went with Half-Life 1 and Half-Life 2.  This would mean that the 2 left 4 dead games are going to be almost totally opposite of each other.

Another question, the release date is clearly stated as being November.  This is a little strange for a company that has repeated for the past 10 years – the game will be released “when its finished.”  So if something comes up in October and the game is not finished, will left 4 dead 2 still be released?  There has been speculation that left 4 dead part 1 was not finished when it was released.

I get the feeling that regardless of what happens with left 4 dead part 2, its going to be released just in time for the 2009 holiday season. And then anything that was not finished will be patched through the steam update system.

Overall, Left 4 Dead 2 has an awesome look to it. I hope its just as much fun as part 1 – but only time will tell.
