Another Left 4 Dead 2 Scavenge Video

Published by Kevin under Left 4 Dead

We have yet another Left 4 Dead 2 Scavenge Video. Thanks to KaneKnoxvillestudios for posting this video on youtube.

Scavenge/Scavenger mode is when the survivors have to round of gas cans to keep the generator going. This creates special problems for the survivor team, as in they are split up and can not help each other as they need to. In Left 4 Dead its critical that the survivors stay together and work as a team. Scavenge mode splits the players up so they are alone, easier to attack and probably easier to kill.

Please post your comments in the Left 4 Dead 2 Scavenge Video thread of the forums.

New Left 4 Dead 2 Scavenger Gameplay Video

Published by Kevin under Left 4 Dead

What are these Scavenger videos supposed to be about? There is a timer, but what is the timer for? Is it like a reverse survivor mode or something? Looks like we will have to wait until Left 4 Dead 2 is released before we get very much more information. You know how the people at Valve Software are, they keep everything a secret up until the very last minute.

Thank you Gam3vault for posting this video on youtube. If you have any comments, post them in the Left 4 Dead 2 Scavenger thread of the Left 4 Dead 2 Forum.

Contest to win a copy of Left 4 Dead 2

Published by Kevin under General, Left 4 Dead

In celebration of the release of Left 4 Dead 2, the Elite Gamers Forum is having a posting contest.

Unlike some of the other contest, where the first place winner picks their prize, this one is a little different. The winner can still pick out several Steam games totaling up to a $50 value, or Left 4 Dead 2. In other words, the first place winner can either get left 4 dead 2, or a steam game up to a $50 value – but not both. Special editions of left 4 dead 2 are exempt.

If left 4 dead 2 is delayed more then 1 month, then the winner will have to pick another game or game package within the $50 price range.

1st prize – $50 game or Left 4 Dead 2 or game package from Steam of your choice.

2nd prize – $25 game or package from Steam of your choice.

New Left 4 Dead 2 Melee Weapons

Published by Kevin under Left 4 Dead

the original left 4 deadOne of the big complaints about the original Left 4 Dead was the lack of melee weapons.  Its as if there were no hardware or sporting good store anywhere in the city.  What big city does not have a sporting goods store or a hardware store?  In an epic battle with zombies, people will be grabbing anything they can.  Some of the first items that come to mind are baseball bats, axes,,,, and anything else people can get their hands on.

Valve software is working to fix the melee weapon problem in Left 4 Dead 2.  This list is what that “fix” is going to include.

  • Baseball Bat
  • Cricket Bat
  • Crowbar
  • Electric Guitar
  • Fire Axe
  • Frying Pan
  • Katana
  • Machete
  • Tonfa (police baton)
  • Chainsaw
  • This list of added melee weapons should make a lot of players happy.  Post your comments in the Left 4 Dead 2 melee weapons thread of the forum.

Left 4 Dead 2 Dark Carnival

Published by Kevin under Left 4 Dead

First impressions of Left 4 Dead 2 Dark Carnival preview videos – their freaking awesome. But do you really expect anything less from Valve Software?

In November of 1998 Valve Software established itself as a driving force in the PC First Person Shooter industry with the release of Half-Life 1.  For the past 11 years the developers at Valve Software have continued to release cutting edge technology that few can compare to.

In November 2008 Left 4 Dead was released – and it took the gaming industry by storm.  The story plot was not unique, as it had already been repeated by dozens if not hundreds of zombie movies.  But this is the first time that “zombie” based game of this quality has been made.

And now, in true Valve Software form, Left 4 Dead 2 is supposed to be released in November 2009.  The preview videos below are from a map called Dark Carnival.

Thanks to jozin1337 for posting these videos on youtube.

One of the things that I like about the preview, are the wide open areas.  In L4D1 there are open areas, but not to the extent like what we see in part 2.  It looks like the game is really opening up and developing into something the gaming industry has never seen before.

Left 4 dead 2 beta phishing scheme going around

Published by Kevin under Left 4 Dead

It seems that the scammers never stop trying to steal your Steam account.  This new attempt involves Left 4 Dead 2 and claims that the L4D2 beta has been leaked.  All you need to do is go to a certain website and you can download the leaked beta.  This is typical of the phishing scams on Steam.

This is where things get a little fuzzy. The people that have had their accounts highjacked did not supply the following information:

    1. Whether they downloaded and installed a file.
    2. If page used a browser exploit to install the program.

These are 2 totally different types of phishing schemes.

Download a file – never ever download and install a file that someone sent you a link to over steam. Even if you know the person – their account could have been highjacked and it could be the scammer sending out the links.

Some programs store the password in the system registry of windows. The program finds that registry key and reads your username and password. The program then sends that information back to the scammer.

The anger about left 4 dead 2

Published by Kevin under Left 4 Dead, Valve and Steam News

    Left 4 Dead

    Left 4 Dead

If you play Left 4 Dead, you should know there is a lot of anger in the community about the quick release of Left 4 Dead 2. A lot of players do not realize what Valve is doing, or “why” their doing it. All of this has been explained before. But for those of you that missed it, lets do a review.

Valve said a long time ago that they were no longer going to release large, iconic games like Half-Life 1.

    A little History:

When Half-Life 1 was released, it was an epic, ground breaking game that forever changed the gaming industry.  The game was HUGE by the standards that were in pace at the time.  You could take Quake, which was the game of the day, and play through it in 6 – 8 hours.  Quake II might take 18 – 24 hours – depending on how fast the player moved and how well they knew the maps.  There were a lot of things in Quake II that were supposed to slow the player down, like finding a switch, or finding a key.

When Half-Life 2 was released, it seemed shorter then HL1.  HL2 is a fun game with lots of detail.  But it just seemed to be missing the “slow down and explorer” factor that HL1 had.

If you take a look at HL2 – Episodes 1 and 2 and compare them to the expansions for HL1 – Opposing Force and Blue Shift. In my opinion, HL2 – Episodes 1 and 2 are a lot shorter then the expansions released almost 10 years ago.

    Other games by Valve:

It would be about like releasing Team Fortress 2.  And when a bunch of new maps are released, Valve just rebrands the product and sells it again with some new character models and the new maps.  Would that really be fair to TF2 players?  In my opinion, no, that would not be fair to the tf2 community.  But for some reason its supposed to be ok for the left 4 dead community?

How about Counter-Strike?  Would it be ok for Valve to release some new maps, new models, rebrand the product and sell it again?  For some reason I dont think the counter-strike players would like that very much.

Lets say that with the release of Counter-Strike:Source there were only 4 maps included with the game.  Valve decides their going to release a series of maps based around New Orleans.  CS:S is rebranded CS:S-2, some new character model are introduced, some new weapons are introduced and the product is sold for full price.  But nothing “new” was really added to the game.  It’s not like a whole new game engine was brought in – like what happened with Counter-Strike and Counter-Strike:Source.

Interview with l4d players about part 2

Published by Kevin under Left 4 Dead

This, and other videos shows just how mad the players are at Valve for the quick release of part 2.  In part, the video speaks the truth.  The players were really just beta testers for Valve.  Even though the people at Valve  said they will continue to update left 4 dead 1 – but a lot of players seriously doubt it.
